Four years ago I was reading a newsletter that was published by the golf course I played regularly and came across an article written by the superintendent. This particular article dealt with the proper way to repair a pitch mark on the green. However, I was one of those that did not think the article was written for me, so I did not read it until a few months later, after a round that I felt was hindered by "bumpy" greens. Once I read the article, I begin to understand that as try as we might to do the right thing in repairing pitchmarks the correct way, the tools we were using were probably not helping the situation on the greens. After I read the article, I realized that I was repairing marks incorrectly based on the type of tool that I was using. You know, one of the flat plastic ones with straight prongs and I was using leverage to push the bottom of the mark up towards the ground level. So, this was the day that inspiration was born and started to work on a tool that would promote a correct way to repair pitchmark. Well, here it is, the GRNTOOL. It helps golfers to push the edges of the mark towards the center without de-rooting the grass. This particular tool is precision milled from 303 SS and is very good at its intended use. I have had a lot of input from two superintendents and their PGA professionals. They have signed off on it and deemed it worthy of repairing pitchmarks correctly, so I hope you will, as well. |
